Transportation services in Sri Lanka

1. Bus

The primary form of public transportation is the bus. Privately owned buses and the state-run Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) both offer services. Both urban and rural routes are served by the SLTB; in many rural areas, it offers service where private operators would not be able to make a profit.

With its hub at the Central Bus Stand in Pettah, Colombo boasts a comprehensive bus-based public transportation network. The arterial routes, also known as radial links, connect the city and district centers, while the orbital links cross over the arterial routes to form the city's road network. Due to the high volume of peak traffic, the majority of bus routes are on radial links without designated bus lanes. Although suggested, a BRT system for Colombo has not yet been put into place.

2. Train

intercity network linking major population centers. The 1,450 km (901 mi) of railway track in the nation is managed by Sri Lanka Railways. Its center is Colombo. The nation's nine provinces are connected by train to their major cities.

3. Tuk-Tuks

Take a tuk-tuk for a distinctive and daring form of transportation. These three-wheeled vehicles are quite common in Sri Lanka and provide an enjoyable means of transportation through congested city traffic and small streets. Before you begin your trip, haggle over the fare with the driver because they usually do not have meters. Tuk-tuks are ideal for traveling short distances and seeing the sights in the area. But it's crucial to protect your safety by selecting tuk-tuk drivers who are legitimate and licensed.
